Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine – Education and Training
The division provides education to learners including medical students, pediatric residents, and medicine-pediatrics residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Didactic lectures are given to physician assistant students, medical students and residents, and elective experiences in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine are offered to third- and fourth-year medical students. The division also participates in continuing medical education for physicians and practices in the community.
Students gain experience with pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine through interactions with patients with respiratory problems in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. Clinical areas include a full range of respiratory conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, sleep disorders, and chronic lung disease. Physicians perform flexible bronchoscopy, environmental allergy testing and interpret pediatric sleep studies.
