Pediatrics Residency – Message from the Chiefs
Welcome to ECU Pediatrics!
We are so excited that you are interested in learning about our program at the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital. Our community of faculty and residents here at ECU Health Medical Center through East Carolina University come from incredibly diverse and unique backgrounds to form a close-knit group of physicians that uphold a standard of excellence. We emphasize a supportive environment within a rigorous educational schedule, and we are incredibly proud of what all our talented colleagues go on to do.
Our program offers a wide range of experiences including, but not limited to: a dedicated community pediatrics rotation, global health electives in locations such as Zambia and Haiti, attendance at national professional meetings, individualized career development electives, a wide-array of pediatric subspecialty electives, and a pediatric chronic health conditions rotation.
Our patient catchment area is one of the largest in North Carolina, encompassing the entirety of eastern North Carolina. We provide inpatient, outpatient, and preventive community care to a population of 1.4 million people in 29 eastern North Carolina counties. The Maynard Children’s Hospital is associated with ECU Health Medical Center and is the only children’s hospital in eastern North Carolina. Our outpatient practice treats over 60,000 children annually. This offers a wide scope of learning opportunities for residents, ensuring that they are well-prepared to pursue careers in either general or subspecialty pediatrics. Our patient population is diverse, ranging from “bread and butter” pediatrics to rare “zebras.”
Thank you again for your interest in our program; we look forward to introducing you to our amazing residency family!
